Assessment Practice
Summative
-
Children in Year R and Nursery will be assessed against the EYFS profile. Parents will be told the age and stage that their child is working at, and at the end of Reception whether their child is emerging, expected or exceeding in comparison to the expected level.
-
Children in Year 1 will carry out the phonic screening test in June – statutory. They will complete phonic tests leading up to these during the year, allowing the tracking of improvement in phonics. The score the children achieve and whether this is meeting the expected level or not will be reported to parents in termly up-dates.
-
Children in Year 2 will be teacher assessed; using SATs materials to support teachers’level judgements. In May children will use the SATs materials in Year 2 to support final judgements. The standard that children are assessed at will be reported to parents at the end of the year. During parents’ consultations in October and February parents will be told about their child’s progress and attainment.
- Children in Year 6 will carry out SATs tests in SPAG, Math and Reading during May. Writing will be teacher assessed against National curriculum expectations. Attainment will be reported to parents in the end of term up-dates and as with year 2, current attainment, progress and targets will be shared during parents’ consultations.
Years 1 – 6
Children throughout the school will be assessed by teachers, each half term, in Reading, Writing, SPAG and Math using evidence in books and obtained during lessons. This is then assessed against the year group teaching objectives and a teacher assessment made as to whether individuals are working below, at or above expected.
Pupils will also be assessed in Reading and Math using Rising Star materials. This will give an assessment of whether children are on track to meet their targets. These will take place at the end of each term.
Children in year groups 3 to 5 will be formally assessed, during the KS2 SATs week, for Reading, Math and SPAG using Nfer material to assess against end of year expectations.
Reporting to Parents
Progress will be shared with parents during Parents’ consultations in October and February so that they can see the areas where children are meeting expectations and, where they are not, to be able to support children at home.
At the end of each term we will report to parents, in the form of a written up-date, to inform parents that children are either below, inline or exceeding expectations in relation to both progress and attainment.
