Home Learning Tasks for Reception Children

  • Please read the school reading book each day with your child supporting them to sound out the words for 15 mins.
  • Please go onto Discovery Education – Espresso – Foundation - Phonics – Phase 2 and 3 and support your child to complete some Phonics learning through games for 15 mins.
  • Please practice reading and writing your child’s tricky words daily for 15 mins and encourage the children to say them and write them in sentences.
  • Please complete one page of handwriting with your child daily for 15 mins encourage your child to form the letters correctly.
  • Please go onto Discovery Education – Espresso – Foundation –Maths and support your child to complete some Maths learning through games for 15 mins. (addition, money, 3d shapes, subtraction)
  • Please share the library book each day with your child supporting their Communication and Language skills, when reading this book to your child please ask them some comprehension questions to check their understanding of the story. (refer to the questions at the front of their reading records)
  • Please go onto Discovery Education – Espresso – Foundation – Understanding the World, please click and explore the different topics with your child, such as Easter, Fourways Farm, Animals etc and watch the videos and play the activity games.
  • Please explore U-TUBE daily and look at ‘segmenting and blending videos for Phase 2 and Phase 3’ for 15 mins.
  • Please go onto Discovery Education – Espresso – Foundation –Physical Development, please click and explore the different topics with your child, such as Food, Ourselves – Our bodies etc.. and watch the videos and play the activity games.
  • Complete a daily music and movement activity use Brain Breaks – Action Songs for Children on U-TUBE or busy feet on U-TUBE, the children will be familiar with these as we use them in school.
  • Please explore alphablocks and numberblocks on U-TUBE daily.
  • Complete the cooking activity with your child using the worksheet in your pack, talk about being safe when cooking and hygiene for example: washing hands. Discuss how many spoonful’s of flour are going into the bowl using language such as: how many more do we need? Do we have enough? Do we have too many?
