Recipe / grams/kilograms

Children to bake cupcakes/cakes. Encourage children to use the weighing scales to measure out the ingredients for their recipe . Explain that there are 1000grams in 1 Kilogram. Question how many grams in ½ a Kg? if I have 400g, how much more do I need for 1Kg?

Challenge: If making 1 portion ask children, how much would be needed if we wanted to double the amount e.g if 110g of butter needed for 6 cupcakes how much would be needed to make 12?

Features of instruction writing: Title, what you need/ingredients (using bullet points), what to do/method (using time connectives, e.g., first, then, next, after 5 minutes, finally), imperative verbs (bossy words, e.g., pour, slice, mix) warning and a drawing.
Challenge- Use a thesaurus to find synonyms for the imperative verbs you used (e.g., instead of ‘put’ – place, set, lay)

Spelling Week 1- Suffixes –ment, -ness, -ful.

Children to practice their spellings- ‘Look, Write, Check’. Then make up silly sentences using the spelling words.
Challenge – Write the silliest sentence to make your parents laugh.

SPAG – Conjunctions. Using ‘when’, ‘if’, ‘that’, ‘because’.

Write an invitation

Think about the invitation the Queen sent to Halibut Jackson. Write an invitation to a grand party, remember to start with ‘Dear’, the date, time and place, what to wear and all the fun things that’ll be happening at the party. Use lots of expanded noun phrases and try to include some of the suffixes you’ve learnt in SPAG and your spelling lessons.

Tell children that in some places, Hindus will hold a competition for children to see who can create the best rangoli pattern explain that these patterns are usually used during the festival of Diwali. Can children create their own Rangoli (google some images for examples!)

Geography/computing
